INNOVATIVE Second National Operator (SNO), Globacom, has said that only the best is good for the Nigeria's market, even as it has indicated plans to delve into Third Generation (3G) deployment.
This is coming in the wake of Globacom official unveiling of Glo Xpress, its Optic Fibre Backbone (OFB) into the nation's market.
Financial Controller at SNO, Mr. Timi Ogunsawo, made this disclosure in Lagos, saying that as an innovative network, Globacom would continue to introduce new and latest technology into the telecommunications market place in the country.
He noted that at inception, Globacom came on board with Second Generation Enhanced (2.5G) network, but is advancing quickly within a short time of operation to 3G.
"We came out with 2.5G and let me put on red alert here that we're thinking of 3G," he said, insisting that only the best is good for Nigeria.
"Our business model is to have the best for Nigeria," he declared.
Mr. Ogunsawo also said the best from the SNO is yet to come, assuring, "We would surely get there".
Meanwhile, Glo Xpress has made its official debut following the completion of laying about 2,500 kilometer optic fibre cable network to cover some parts of the South West and North Central and core north part of the country.
Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Glo Xpress, Mr. Vikramjeet Chandha, said Glo Xpress is wiring up the country for the digital future, even as this 2,500km covers Lagos-Ijebuode-Ore-Benin and Abuja-Kaduna, Zaria-Kano routes.
On completion of the first phase, which is estimated to be 10,000 km by the end of this year, the COO said, the network would have extended its latest offering to major cities including Benin-Warri-Port Harcourt, Aba-Umuahia-Owerri, Owerri-Onitsha-Enugu, Enugu-Oturkpo-Makurdi, Lafia-Abuja and Ibadan-Ilorin-Minna and Abuja routes.
This level of network, he said, is the first in the country and would provide land bandwidth for corporate organizations, thus an infrastructure of an information super highway that transmits voice and data at the speed of light.
With the launch, he invited telecom service companies, internet service providers, manufacturers, oil companies, banks and financial institutions among other corporation organizations in the country to avail themselves of the offering.
Now, he said, they "have a better alternative for their bulk voice and data transmission requirements."
As such, Mr. Chandha said it would improve communication in the country while eliminating the problems associated with satellite and microwave transmission channels.
Noting that most operations in the industry today are based on satellite for bandwidth requirements, which is dependent on weather and therefore not completely reliable.
"A thunderstorm can render the microwave and satellite ineffective," he declared.
