Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Bukola Saraki, has praise the Second National Operator (SNO) over its poverty alleviation programme.
The governor gave the praise at the presentation of 20,000 Glo SIMs and telephone directory to the state government in Ilorin, the state capital.
Mr. Saraki expressed gratitude to Globacom's management for extending the Glo network to the state and charged the company to make its spread to the rest of the state as well as the border areas a matter of top priority.
Represented by his deputy, Chief Joel Ladeji, the governor spoke glowingly about the SNO, especially for the donation of free SIMs, which, he observed would enhance governance and improve productivity.
Chief Operating Officer of Globacom, Mr. Mohammed Jameel, while making the presentation, said Globacom’s activities are turning point of patriotism with enhanced value proposition and empowerment of the people.
“We are proud of our modest contributions to the socio-economic progress in the country, particularly in the area of job creation, provision of telecom services and social responsibility constructs. This is a self-appointed task and we are determined to remain on that path of honor”, he said
Mr. Jameel also said that the challenge of nation-building was onerous, engaging and involving.
The presentation of the SIMs and glossary, he noted, was one of Globacom’s contributions towards positively impacting the nation’s populace.
“It is an irony to imagine the level of poverty and ignorance that pervade the land despite the abundance in material and human resources," he lamented.
Emphasizing that Glo is challenged to seize the initiative to help appoint a new direction for the nation.
"Our vision is to build a truly Nigerian network; the biggest and best in the continent. Our modest strides in barely two years of operations portend greater heights for Globacom and indeed Nigeria”, he said.
ITrealms calls to mind the SNO rolled out of its network in 2003, Globacom has constantly been in the forefront of increasing the value proposition to subscribers.
Globacom also was the first network to launch Per Second Billing and the first to launch the General Packet Radio Service in Nigeria, offering unique value added services such Mobile Internet, Glo Direct, Glo MMS and M-Banking.
