A Nigerian-owned Biotechnology - The Food Solution, portal, www.odofin.com, has been selected for the finals of this year’s Stockholm Challenge as announced by the organizing team.
The WSIS Challenge Award for African projects attracted over 100 registrations.
The entry “Biotechnology - The Food Solution (BFS) in the Economic Development Category of this year’s Stockholm Challenge was nominated into the finalist, hence the project manager, Mr. Samuel Odofin is expected to take part at the formal conference and announcement of the overall winner in Stockholm, all things being equal.
ITREALMS Online recalls that last November at Tunis during the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS-05), Odofin also picked the WSIS world summit youth award.
The event scheduled for May 9 through 11, would include a two-day category workshops and conference for finalists to be facilitated by representatives from the conference sponsor, the Swedish Program for ICT in Development in Developing Regions (SPIDER).
The organizing team, in a letter to finalists signed by the Director, Ulla Skidén and Project Support, Earl Mardle, said that a ‘finalists dinner’ will be held on May 9, while the grand prize-giving ceremony and celebration dinner in the Blue Hall of Stockholm City comes upon May 11, when the winners of the Stockholm Challenge Awards and the WSIS Challenge Award will be announced.
The best ICT for development in Africa project was created due to great interests among entrepreneurs in many of the African countries.
“No less than 128 projects, out of the total of approved projects in the Stockholm Challenge Award 2006, come from Africa” the organizers said before the special jury assessment.
