Vmobile Nigeria has announced the attainment of 5 million active subscribers on its network.
Chief Executive, Vmobile Nigeria, Mr. Willem Swart, said that the feat was achieved last month and is evidence of acceptance of the network’s products and services by the populace.
“The feat achieved in March 2006 is evidence of the acceptance of Vmobile products and services by Nigerians. It is also evidence of our modest contribution to the growth of the Nigerian telecom sector,” he said.
He also credited the feat to the goodwill and patronage of Nigerians as well as the commitment of the company’s employees.
Noting that with the huge investments currently being made in network coverage expansion, quality and customer services, the company will continue to experience an increase in subscriber numbers.
He pointed out that Vmobile supports a policy whereby the subscriber numbers of major networks are audited by independent auditors and published by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), on a regular basis.
According to him, this would prevent opportunistic claims by the various networks and keep Nigerians informed about the actual growth levels of the industry.
Emphasising that by international standards, an active subscriber is a phone user who has received an incoming or made an outgoing call on the network in the previous three months.
Vmobile, he said, reports subscriber numbers based on the global standards of activity in the previous three months.
Mr. Swart also restated the telco’s vision, which has been to provide world class customer services so as to make telecommunications an enjoyable experience for all Nigerians.
