OVER 40 youths selected from 15 states of the federation would be hosted in Lagos this Saturday by the Lagos Digital Village (LDV) for this year’s annual Youth Agenda summit.
Programme Manager at LDV, Mr. Gbenga Sesan, informed that the confirmed participating 15 states include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kwara, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, and Taraba.
Hosted in collaboration with Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) and the Nigerian Youth ICT4D Network, Mr. Sesan said this year’s edition comes with the theme, “ICTs for Rural Development (ICT4RD)”.
The theme, he also said, was based on the need to replicate the efficiency of telecenters across the nation; hence this year’s summit would consider holistic application of relevant technologies towards the development of rural part of the country so as to improve on the livelihoods of the citizenry.
Sesan who also is the pioneer Information Technology (IT) youth ambassador in the country, said, the event would feature “speed geek” sessions, technical training for rural knowledge workers, case discussion on India’s “Mission 2007”, 1-Year Strategic Planning Session and a discussion on the “RoadMap for Nigeria on Telecenters”.
According to him, a video documentary on Internet Governance - breaking down global discussions on the topic into local understandable and applicable points- would be screened.
Facilitators for the summit, Mr. Sesan noted would include himself along with other enthusiasts and researchers such as Tope Soremi, David Mutua, and Ayo Oladejo.
Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (www.pin.org.ng) is a youth-led and online platform for youth who invest their knowledge of the practical use of ICTs in development towards the emergence of a new Nigeria.
Nigerian Youth ICT4D Network (www.nyinetwork.org) is an online network of young Nigerians with passionate interest in technology, and potentials it holds for personal and national development.
On the other hand, the LDV is a project of Junior Achievement of Nigeria (JAN) (www.janigeria.org), a non-profit organisation that helps young people bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace.
