Managing Director, Cisco Nigeria, Mr. Maduka Emelife, has adduced more reasons for the global company to open office in the country, saying it has confidence in the current reforms.
Mr. Emelife who spoke in a chat with ITRealms Online said, that Cisco makes complex products.
“For a Cisco to therefore invest in Nigeria at this time, is a test of its confidence in the progress of the Nigerian economic and government reforms,” he affirmed.
Also Cisco presence in the country, he said, depicts an opportunity for both the firm and Nigeria to explore mutually beneficial opportunities for long term partnership, moreso, as the nation is still at the infrastructure stage in many sectors and the basis for effective infrastructure management are networks - intelligent networks, which Cisco is the only player in intelligent networks.
“The country has to take advantage of this” he said.
As said by him, Cisco is the leader in complex networking products which guides countries and companies in their journey of life and service to its citizens and customers.
“We do recognize that there are still skill shortages and so we are focusing on building the competencies of partners and customers alike,” he said.
Stressing that there are 22 Cisco Network Academies in the country already, but his leadership at Cisco Nigeria intends to review them and come out with plans to build more over the next few years.
Recalling that a Cisco Academy is a philanthropy project where the company provides equipments and resources for free to select serious minded institutions, who would in turn run them by providing training and certification to members of their community.
“So that such graduates of the academy would find gainful employment in networking, telecom and information technology (IT),” he asserted.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in the country, he said, should expect better customer support, market presence, and ability of providing answers to the numerous questions on what Cisco could do to help each government entity and business enterprise, including Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) to grow.
“We will also provide thought leadership on key national projects in information technology, education, private sector development, and how people connect to each other with technology,” he assured.
