Renowned erudite and director, Lagos Business School (LBS), Prof. Pat Utomi has advised Nigerian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to always venture into new areas, saying that venturing is part of success in business entrepreneurship.
Prof. Utomi who was speaking at the first ever annual lecture series of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) Lagos chapter, Monday, said that though there are elements in the society that discourage genuine entrepreneurship, but Nigerians should not despair, especially in ICT sector, where evolution is constantly taking place.
In a lecture with the theme: “Entrepreneurship and IT: Building Technology Enterprises in an emerging economy” asserted that “There is sense in venturing,” but warned that this does not mean that someone has to continuously invest without proper planning and vision.
“Vision is a part of perceiving,” stressing that entrepreneurs usually perceive the kind of business to invest before attempting.
Another issue he raised was that of government policies which he noted that the inconsistency have not been helpful to entrepreneurs, especially upcoming ones in the country.
Welcoming participants to the occasion, the interim chairman, NCS Lagos chapter, Mr. James Agada, said the story of the information age is anchored on the intrepid entrepreneurs who have changed the world with transformative business models and technologies.
He also said that in Nigeria such people still exist and the lecture examined the theme that the chapter intends to build on the benefit of adding value to knowledge of its members in being part of the emerging economy.
NCS, he said, would continue to organize lectures and workshops on how to improve the entrepreneurship of its members, just as he enjoined members to continuously support the programme of the society and chapter in particularly.
The event witnessed good will messages from NCS national represented by its first Vice President, Chief Anthony Olaide Oyadele and President, Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), Mr. Lanre Ajayi among others.
