Nigeria leads @ PIWA contest

Nigeria has taken the lead in the first Panos Institute for West Africa (PIWA) contest on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) media tagged “Print Media in West Africa: Mediator for Information Society Issues.”

Announcing the result, ICT Programme Assistant at PIWA, Aissatour Tounkara, informed correspondent that Nigerian ICT journalist and editor, ITEdge Magazine, Mr. Olusegun Ohimeh Oruame, took the first prize.

He made the prize with his piece on “In Nigeria … Change is mobile.”

The second prize however, went to Mrs Ramata Sore, of L’Evenement, Burkina Faso, for her piece on ‘Faire du Bio a L’aide des TIC.

The special award specifically sponsored by the Centre for International Policy for West and Central Africa (CIPACO) went to Mr. Fernand Nouwligbeto, for his article/ “Telecoms/TIC en Afrique: Reformer le Cadre juridique pour doper La croissance economique.”

While the award for the radio went to Mr. Filifing Diakite of Radio Guintan, Bamako, for his production, “Le register des dossiers judiciaries et statistiques judiciaries.”

The PIWA official also said that a total of 33 productions for the print media, and four (4) radio productions, came from 10 countries in the West African region.

These countries included Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, the Centrafrican Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Chad.

Mr. Oruame would be presented his prize along others at a regional workshop, Post-World Summit on the Information (WSIS) with the theme: “ICT Governance and Post WSIS,” slated to hold Jun 13 through 15 in Sally, Senegal.
