Continental prize for ICT Africa

Information and Communications Technologies (ICT Africa) television programme on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) has bagged a continental award at this year’s Highway Africa conference as it clinched the first prize of the African Information Society Initiative (AISI) award on Promoting the Information Society, Tv category.

The award presented at the Guy Berger Auditorium, Grahamstown, South Africa, penultimate Tuesday, saw participants drawn from the 42 countries across the continent.

In a letter conveying the award message and endorsed by the officer in charge of Development Information Services Division (DISD) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Ms Aida Opaku Mensah, said, that ICT Africa won the prize with a documentary on “Impact of ICTs on the Social Economic Development of Rural Nigeria.”

She therefore congratulated Mr. Don Pedro Aganbi, the anchorman at ICT Africa for the success.

It would be recalled that Mr. Aganbi through his ICT Africa programmes, has won several other industry awards locally, leading with the Nigerian Information Technology and Telecommunication Award (NITTA).

Noteworthy is that in year 2000 and 2001 ICT Africa emerged the ‘Best IT programme of the year” courtesy of the Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN) but now Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).

Also, it got an award for excellence for contribution in promoting IT awareness in Nigeria presented by Compaq West Africa, now Hewlett Packard (HP) in 2002 and Nigerian Teen’s Favourite IT programme of the year - Electronic 2003 courtesy, Teens International Foundations.

And between 2004 and 2005, ICT Africa has consistently won the best IT programme of the year at NITTA organised by IT and Telecom Digest and the Nigerian Telecom Awards.

ICT Africa, a multiple award winning TV programme according to the producer, Mr. Aganbi, was designed specifically to report issues, trend and developments in the global ICT Industry.
