This addition would bring the number of participating schools in the country to a total of 41.
General Manager, MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. Collins Khumalo, disclosed this in Lagos, and said that in the next few months, this figure would be actualised.
“MultiChoice Nigeria is currently planning the roll out of another 20 schools in the next few months to reach a total of 41 schools throughout the country,” he declared.
Although he did not give details on the schools, but assured that they would be structured to have a national spread, just as the project has been up and running in about 21 schools.
MCRP is part of a community development strategy to leverage on MultiChoice assets and expertise for development and growth of African communities in the various countries in which
MultiChoice is operating, just as it’s aligned with the New Economic Partnership for African Development (NEPAD’s) e-Schools initiative.
MultiChoice Africa, in co-operation with relevant stakeholders, offers the DStv education bouquet at no cost to schools in a number of other African countries, including Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda and Zambia.
Locally in Nigeria, he said, MRCP is executed in collaboration with the Education Ministry and SchoolNet Nigeria, while participating schools were provided with television, video recorders and satellite decoders required to access the bouquet as well as teachers receiving training on integrating the resources into their lessons.
The DStv education bouquet, he explained, comprises of seven premium channels, National Geography, Discovery Channel, History Channel, South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Africa, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) world, Animal Planet and Activate, thus leveraging on combining the sound and imagery of television to support teaching and learning.
