Celtel lives up to ‘Your dream’ promo

Tuesday, December 12, 2006 to lots of people could mean several things in their lives and for some lucky Nigerian Celtel subscribers, this date would remain a turning point in their lives as they were presented prizes in the telco’s ‘Win Your Dream Promotion.’

The presentation, the first in the series to come was in fulfilment of the telco’s promise to make the lives of Nigerians and specifically its subscribers better.

The first impression for an onlooker at the event held at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island Lagos, seems to has been postponed indefinitely as at the appointed time, none of the winners were anywhere around the premises.

For the winners, the presentation seems the longest time for most of them to cross the proverbal river Jordan of their lives.

But sooner than they began to arrive the avenue in a convey led by a black Limousine, which eventually was literally occupied by the first N15 million winner in the promo, Alhaji Hussein Mohammed Jallo, while other winners were accommodated in an air-conditioned white Coaster bus.

It was not unexpected that the event venue and winners have close marking of security operatives, especially for the top prize-winner, Alhaji Jallo.

And in a grand way of saying ‘we have lived up to our promise’, Celtel International began to present prizes to the 20 winners that emerged in the mini-dream categories which offers each a total of N250,000.

By the time it came for the top prize to be presented, the compere of the day, Ali Baba, could not but wish somehow he was related to all the winners, afterall, they say that success begets many friends.

The winners led by the Kaduna-based Jallo, included mini dream winners of N250,000 namely Amasamena Ikiobosa, Engr. Solomon, Charles Dafi, Queen Barry Davies, and Tajudeen Jimoh Oluwatoyin as well as Chinwe Okwor, Adeosun Olufemi Emmanuel, Unyime Okon, Jacob Akpan, Stella Ene, Cynthia Edwards, and Maureen Aghayere.
For Alhaji Jallo, the winning and eventual presentation of cheques to confirm it has changed his personal perception of promotions in the country, especially from the telcos.
He noted that this perception represents a change too for his northern brothers about promotions.
Chief executive, Celtel Nigeria, Mr. Bayo Ligali in his speech to the occasion, said that already over 120,087 winners have emerged in the promo, describing the first presentation of prizes as a fulfilment come true that could only come from a company that cares about its subscribers in effort to bring succour to their needs in order to make their lives better.
Today is yet another day of promises fulfilled, of aiming high and of dreaming of a better life when you are connected to the network that not only cares about you but is with you for life,” he said.

Mr. Ligali noted that five weeks ago when the promo began, Celtel made a promise to change the lives of its loyal subscribers by helping them to realise the dream of a future designed by their desires.

“And today, the lives of some of our customers have already changed for the better forever and as they say, they have moved to another level with their winnings,” he declared, stressing that currently, two Big Dream (N15million) winners have been recorded in the promo; one from Kaduna and another, an Igbo man residing in Lagos.

Out of 120,087 winners, he said, 65 winners emerged in the Mini Dream N250,000; 20 winners of N5,000 airtime; 20,000 winners of N500 airtime; 50,000 winners of N200 airtime and 50,000 winners of N100 airtime.

Chairman, Celtel Nigeria, Mr. Gamaliel Onosode, said that beyond the normal activities such as network coverage expansion and capacity enhancement and quality improvement, the telco decided to pay back to its subscribers through the promo, by seeking to help customers’ to realize their dreams.

“It is not an accident that we chose to do so at this time of the year, when people quite naturally take stock of their achievements. We hope, therefore, to join as many people as emerged winners in the “Win Your Dream Promo” to celebrate the Year-end in a special way,” he said.

Mr. Onosode further congratulated the winners and participants in the promotion, just as he encouraged other existing customers and even new customers to continue to recharge and increase their chances of winning these excellent prizes.

The top prize cheque was later presented by Mr Onosode and supported by Mr. Ligali.

Messrs Alexander Forbes serves as the external auditors to the promo, while TCQA Associates, audits the application for the draws and Kakawa Discount House is the financial advisers to the various winners.

For Mr. Dada Lucas, Products Manager at Celtel, the promo, which began November will end January 2007, with winners of mini-dream emerging daily, while the winners of the big dream will emerge weekly.

All the draws would be televised daily at 8:00 p.m. on the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) while the weekly Big Dream Prize Draw is shown on Sundays during the popular NTA newsline.
