Glo shines at Enugu fair –07, presents Honda to 5 winners

This year’s Enugu International Trade Fair ended in the coal city with the Second National Operator (SNO), Globacom Limited, shining as it bags an award for the ‘Most Exciting Corporate Day at the Fair.’

This development came as two residents of Jos, Messrs Abrubakr Abdrullah Melvin and Ifenkwe Okechukwu Victor, at the weekend took delivery of their Honda I-Vtec salon cars as part of the Glo’s N750 Recharge promo presentation, while three other winners, namely, Mrs Kate Sokari, Mr Femi Atoyebi and Miss Chinasa Okedurum at the fair ground.

The telco informed that ‘Globacom Day’ at the 2007 Fair, was held last week Wednesday, March 28, was memorable not just for the unprecedented crowd that graced the event, but also for the fact that Globacom used the event to present brand new Honda Accord IV-Tec cars to three winners of the Glo Seasons Recharge promo, which draw was held few weeks earlier in the coal city.

In addition, Glo said that the special day was of significant attraction for Trade Fair as subscribers who visited Glo stand had the opportunity of winning two mid range Nokia phones.

Speaking at the event, Globacom's Director of Events and Sponsorships, Mr. Folu Aderibigbe who stood in for the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Mohammed Jameel, said that the event was essentially to celebrate the people of South East of Nigeria who have been an important factor in the success story of Globacom.

He also said that the firm decided to constantly put in place reward programmes to show appreciation to subscribers for their loyalty to the network.

Excited President, Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Sir Rob Anwatu, lauded Globacom's social responsibility profile, saying the company puts smiles on the face of its subscribers and also putting money in various other key sectors dear to Nigerian people.

In a related development, Mr. Melvin is a student of University of Jos, Mr. Ifenkwe is a trader also based in Jos took delivery of their Honda cars at the weekend.

Presenting the car keys to Mr. Melvin, Dean, Students Affairs at University of Jos (UJ), Prof. (Mrs) E.A. Abama said Glo has shown the mark of responsible corporate citizenship by affecting the life of Nigerians in various areas and particularly, for reaching out to a student of the University.

“I’m excited to be part of this event because, with this gesture one student has been conveniently educated,” she said.

Prof. Abama, who represented the Vice Chancellor of UJ, also implored Glo to continue the good work and extend the gesture.

Equally commenting, the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Diket Plang, said Globacom has demonstrated by all its activities so far, that it was a truly Nigerian company prepared to salvaging this country from the throes of communication extinctions.

“It is not in contest that if you want to communicate with anybody in Plateau State, Glo will be your first choice. I’m not saying it because I was invited to this event; it is a fact that needs to be ascertained by anyone who cares to find out. This is why I will never be separated with the network,” he said.

Mr. Plang noted that at a time, Nigerians used to doubt the winnings in these promotions until they have the opportunity of witnessing the event draws themselves. “I discovered at one of the events that a man from my own town was one of the winners. I know the man and I know his pedigree and I just knew if it was a case of set up, no one could have remembered him. I don’t know about other networks, but I know that Glo is genuine,” he said.
