The event, which took place at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), saw also the induction of Dr. Nicholas Damachi, Dr. Abdullahi Aliyu and Dr. Akinyinka Adubifa, Prof. Olusegun Oyeleke Adewoye and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Funsho Moses Kupolokun.
Dr. Ndukwe was recognised as NAE fellow due to his leadership showcased at NCC and for presiding over the continental’s first Digital Mobile License auction in January 2001, which has been acknowledged as internationally transparent and professionally executed, according to his citation read at the occasion.
NAE also said that Ndukwe desired the honour accorded him because he has represented Nigeria at various events and even become a regular resource person at both locally and international telecommunications conferences including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) forums.
Just as he had bagged several other awards including the distinguished excellence award by the Nigerian Information Technology Professionals in the Americas (NITPA) for outstanding contribution towards the improvement of communications industry in Nigeria among others.
For Prof. Esogbue, also known as Dean of African Academia in Engineering in the United States (US), his recognition came based on his input into the global engineering sphere as an educator who has touched and changed many lives through production of several generations of high quality graduates scattered worldwide.
According to his citation at the occasion, Prof. Esogbue has been honoured by many African organisations in the US for his professional accomplishments, even as he was a recipient of the prestigious award of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM), recently.
Before administering the fellowship on the recipients, President, Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Prof. V.O.S. Olunloyo, charged the new fellows to ensure that they live up to expectation of the academy by keeping the nation’s flag flying wherever they may find themselves as engineering professionals.
Responding on behalf of the inductees, Dr. Ndukwe promised that they would not disappoint the academy.
“We would continue to promote excellence in the engineering profession,” he declared, and expressed appreciation to the academy for founding them worthy of recognition.
The group managing director of NNPC, Dr. Kupolokun gave the lecture of the day entitled, “Empowering Nigerian Engineers Through the National Content Agenda.” Just as the event was well attended.
