Owerri confab: NCS gets new dates

THE leadership of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the umbrella organisation of the all the Information Technology (IT) professionals, interest groups and stakeholders in the country, has announcement the shift in dates for its 9th international conference slated to hold in Owerri, capital of Imo State.

The society includes associations such as Information Technology (Industry) Association of Nigeria (ITAN), Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON), Internet Service Providers Association of Nigeria (ISPAN) Nigeria Information Technology Practitioners in the Civil Service, Nigeria Information Technology Corporate Members Group, The Nigerian Information Technology Academic Group and National Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS).

NCS through its Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Ejide Oladunmoye, informed that the conference earlier scheduled to hold next month, June between Tuesday 12 and Friday 15, 2007, has been postponed by one month.

“It would now be held on July 17 through 20, 2007 at the Imo Concord Hotel, Owerri,” he said.

However, no reason was given for the postponement, but industry watchers informed Champion Infotel that it was not unconnected to change of leadership at various states of the federation yesterday, May 29, after the April general polls.

Generally, the objective of NCS is the advancement of Computer Science and Information Technology systems; their applications and deployments to professional practice in education, government, the military, industry and support for work, which is important to the general community and the professions at large.

Champion Infotel recalled that last year, the 8th international annual conference of NCS was held in Adamawa State in the North East part of the country, and a year before, it was held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Transformation of NCS began in 2002 when all the relevant organs agreed to form an umbrella, hence the name of Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN) was changed to NCS to reflect the industry feeling and gain recognition.

Its annual confab involves exhibitions and conferences.
