Ericsson takes ‘broadband everywhere’ to 3GSM West Africa

Mobile and broadband Internet communications giant, Ericsson, took its broadband technology otherwise called ‘Broadband Everywhere’ to the just concluded Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) and Third Generation (3G) West Africa 2007 show, which held in Senegal at the weekend.

Marketing & Communications Manager at Ericsson West Africa, Mr. Olabode Sowunmi, said that his firm used the occasion to demonstrate why it is the perfect partner for progress in the rapidly evolving and converging telecom world.

He said that Ericsson displayed its capability of full service broadband offering and extensive range of end-to-end network solutions from the company’s stand at the event held in Le Meridien President Hotel Dakar, Senegal.

The company also focused on why mobile broadband is the natural evolution of mobile data services and the tremendous opportunities this offers operators.

Also speaking, Vice President, Networks and Sales Support for Ericsson’s Market Unit for sub-Saharan Africa (MUSA), Mr. Pieter van der Westhuizen, said that the demonstration is a challenging, but exciting time in the telecom market and stressed that the end-to-end network solutions from Ericsson are likely to generate a lot of interest.

“Particularly now that High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) is starting to make mobile broadband a reality,” he said.

Mr. Westhuizen explained that the remarkable peak data rates and increased system capacity generated by HSPA has been attracting the attention of operators globally and in West Africa precisely.

“Developing a new generation of Value Added Services (VAS) with HSPA’s was presented at the event,” he said.
