This would facilitate the telco’s desire to offer its services across the length and breadth of Nigeria.
Champion Infotel recalls that early June the telco was given a directive from NCC to stop expansion of its network, which the commission claimed was out of its license coverage.
The latest development, according to the Head, Corporate Communications of Reltelwireless, Mr. Oge Udeagha, was contained in a letter signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, and dated June 15, 2007.
Part of the letter read that with this approval, “Reltelwireless has been cleared to offer National Mobile Telephony, National Fixed Telephony Services, International Data Access Services, International Gateway Services, and National Long Distance Services.”
Mr. Udeagha pointed out that the telco had earlier secured the national spectrum for its allocated frequencies, covering all the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, thus making it one of the few telecommunications operators in the country, and the first Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) operator, to fully pay for a national spectrum as opposed to a regional coverage.
He explained that the company had been working hard to roll out its network across the geopolitical zones of the country and this would be complemented with a mobile license to give its subscribers the roaming benefits of its pan-Nigeria coverage.
“We’re happy that our subscribers can now enjoy unlimited access to our services across the country. It was essential to first roll-out extensively across the country, so that our customers can derive maximum value from the Unified License. This is good news for us, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. We shall be launching our unified numbering plan very soon, and our subscribers can look forward to enjoying our quality service anywhere in Nigeria,” he said.
Reltelwireless currently operates in 11 cities, as the CDMA operator with the most extensive reach in Nigeria, just as it plans to go live in 30 more, within the next two months.
