Linkserve, Sony Ericsson, others listed in 50 W.A. enterprises

Pioneer Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the country, Linkserve Limited alongside handset giant, Sony Ericsson and Nigerian renowned software house, SystemSpecs Limited, have been listed in the top 50 technology business enterprises in the West African region.

Others entities who made the list include Celtel, Microsoft, Areeba of Ghana, Sonatel of Senegal among others were rated as top 50 for year 2007, just as they would be hosted by end of this month in Lagos.

According to a survey by the intelligence unit of IT Edge, a technology business news magazine, the 50 emerged in various categories.

Mr. Segun Oruame, editor of IT Edge informed that the criterion for these selections were determined based on best of technologies, business efforts and acumen as it concerns corporate excellence, service delivery transparency and strict adherence to the tenets of best international practice.

He disclosed that the rating, captured all of the Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region, and is the first of such in recent times cutting across the French and English speaking countries.

He also said that the categories covered were from Broadband Internet Services/Solution companies, software companies, international vendors, telcos, and handset manufacturers to Personal Computer (PC) makers’ distribution companies in the region.

As said by him, MTN, Cisco, Systemspecs, Kasapa (Ghana), Omatek, Zinox, Tigo (Ghana), Interswitch, Nokia and HP were among the top 50 listed.

Additionally, Multilinks, Comium (Sierra Leone), Accelon, GS Telecom, Motorola, LG Electronics, Xerox, DOPC and Starcomms equally made the list.

A press statement endorsed by Mr. Oruame who also is the head, intelligence unit IT Edge, revealed that the main objective behind this annual ranking is to give the broadest information possible on the state of the ICT market in the sub-region using each country’s key players’ performance as basis for assessment of the overall technology business sector’s welfare.

These basic assessments were measured with such tools as data collection, local sources including newspapers and magazines, news websites, and international news publications including IT weekly of Dubai, Wall Street journal and Reuters.

Recognized as a top 50, Linkserve Limited has tremendously made her mark in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry having remained the first and one of the best broadband internet solutions providers in the past decade.
