Washington to host confab on impact of technology

Washington D.C. will next month play host to an international conference with a focus on the impact of technology on access to finance.

Tagged “Next Generation Access to Finance: Gaining Scale and Reducing Costs with Technology and Credit Scoring,” the conference, is being organised by the trio of International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Consultative Group to Assist the Poor(CGAP), in collaboration with Visa International.

The conference scheduled September 17 through19, 2007 will highlight technologies used by pioneering organizations in the financial services industry, including micro finance organizations, to reduce costs and reach new customers.

The conference will bring together representatives from financial institutions interested in using technology and credit reporting in their businesses, the donor community, and global leaders in financial technology and credit information.

Delegates, according to the organiser’s press statement made available to Champion Infotel, will hear from industry leaders drawn from around the world as they provide in-depth and critical analysis on using technology and credit reporting to increase access to finance.

Speakers represent a range of organizations, including Banco Caja Social, Experian, Grameen Foundation, Mibanco, Sony Corporation, and Visa.

The organisers said that the programme would aim at convening leaders from such technology providers and financial institutions as micro finance institutions, commercial banks, and credit information providers.

In addition, they would examine thoroughly what has worked and what could work better in using technology and credit reporting to increase access to finance.

The confab is expected to provide a multi-sectoral, global view of credit scoring and its potential for financial institutions, as well as modules to enable lenders to assess different products and establish contact with global providers of cutting-edge technologies represented at the conference exhibition.

This exhibition will feature technology providers and credit information providers from around the world.
