GTB warning on emails

Recently, leading banking institution in the country, GTB Plc, sounded a note of warning to its teeming customers over electronic mails scam.

According to the bank, the perpetrators were eager to gain access to customers’ online account.

The management of bank in an email sent to customers with the subject on “Scam emails in circulation,” said that it has come to its notice that some “scam e-mails’ are being sent to our customers. The motive behind these e-mails is to gain access to customers’ Internet Banking Login details in order to defraud the customer.”

GTB also advised customers to ensure that they protect their account, hence it is important to confirm the authenticity of all e-mails with links to the Guaranty Trust Bank Internet banking page.

To confirm this, customers were advised to look out for the gold padlock at the bottom right corner of the Internet banking page before logging in.

GTB management added that by double clicking on the gold padlock to view a window that would confirm that the page is the valid Guaranty Trust Bank Internet banking page duly registered with Verisign, an international digital certificate authority.

The bank further advised that in the event the gold padlock was not found in the specified area of the Internet banking page, “please note that it is a scam and should not be responded to it.”

Equally the bank said that if customers have responded to such e-mails, they should not hesitate to contact the bank by going to the bank’s website www.gtbplc.com, to effect a change of their password immediately and accordingly inform the bank of such ‘scam e-mails’.

The truth of the matter here is that customers have an obligation to fulfill too for the services being offered to them to be fully secured, that is, being prompt in reporting incidents and sticking to official directives.
