ITAN President and chief executive, Kontemporary Komputers, Chief Jimson Olufuye disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos, during his maiden chat with the media.
He also said that the event slated to hold at Protea Hotel Maryland Lagos, on Friday, has eight sub-themes, including “Appraisal of the state of IT in Nigeria & inherent potentials, IT legislation: Challenges before the National Assembly, Capacity investment strategies, The power of Collaboration & Partnership, IT Funding and local content, IT export strategies, How to create your own certified brand? and How to effectively launch a new product into the market place?” while the main theme is 3e-Strategies for Enhancing & Empowering IT Entrepreneurs for Millennium Projects.
Chief Olufuye noted that presentations would be made by some eminent professionals and members of ITAN and government to be led by the Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Prof Cleopas Angaye; chief executive, Omatek Computers, Mrs. Florence Seriki; Chairman, Zinox Computers, Dr Leo Stan-Ekeh; Director of ECCC at ECOWAS Secretariat Abuja, Dr. Sola Afolabi; Chairman, House Committee on Science & Technology, Mr. James Baitachi; Director of Operations, Education Trust Fund (ETF), Engr A. Agunbiade; President Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Dr. (Mrs) Adenike Osofisan, and her counterpart at the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS). Prof. Charles Uwadia, among others.
He explained that participation fee for members is N10,000.00 each, while non-members would attract N15,000 respectively, stressing that fee would cover conference materials, tea-break and lunch, even as payment could be made at the event venue.
Olufuye emphasised that the summit is being organised in fulfilment of one of the outlines in his acceptance speech immediately after his election as ITAN President on March 29.
“I made clear my intention to build a solid relationship with you towards advancing the divine project which is to accentuate IT penetration in all facet of Nigerian life particularly in governance, education and commerce,” he said.
ITAN president pointed out that the nation currently needs clear direction in terms of fiscal policies, apt legislation and leadership.
“I therefore wish to use this opportunity to commend President Umaru Yar’Adua for providing good leadership for our nation thus far,” he said, assuring that ITAN in collaboration with NCS, CPN and other stakeholders would endeavour to match the President’s focus particularly on IT matters.
The summit, he said, is to further address the issues of national importance, especially concerning the industry and attendant IT challenges, noting that in 2006, the summit was hosted at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja by ECOWAS with focus on the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
