NEC to launch Internet TV product

One of the global leading providers of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions, NEC Corporation, is warming up to launch full-scale Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) business with high-profile Next Generation Network (NGN) carrier applications, reports Charles Okoh.

This will provide end-to-end IPTV solutions and video delivery systems to communication carriers, and will expand this business to the international market. According to a statement made available to Champion Infotel, NEC will draw on its NGN know-how and experience with broadcasting technology to deliver highly competitive solutions which is expected to generate about N50 million in sale by 2010.

The company will deliver end-to-end IPTV solutions using NEC products from network architecture to deliver servers and household terminals, in a “full line full layer” approach which would make it possible to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) as well as Quality of Experience (QoE) promising advanced security demanded by carriers and users like.

Also, NEC plans to release into the market, its “NC7500-VD” video delivery server (VoD) server in April as the core system for new IPTV solutions.

This, server official said, would deliver continuous video on-demand services with carrier-grade reliability and in-built contents protection functions that will safeguard intellectual property rights and satisfy even the most robust security needs.

The press statement endorsed by executive vice president, NEC, Dr. Botaro Hirosaki, said, “IPTV is a video delivery service that use the IP network. With the addition of NGN we can provide a variety of services, including high-grade video-on-demand (VoD) and value-added information services.”

He added that NEC aims to expand services and meet carrier demands for smooth migration from current services and advanced service architecture incorporation NGN capabilities by providing next generation IPTV solutions couple with extensive technical achievements in broadcasting with our core competence in the area of IT network integration.
