Starcomms ascribes growth to Unified Licence

Acclaimed leader in the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) telecommunications segment in the country, Starcomms Limited, has attributed its recent massive growth to granting of the Unified Access License (UAL) by industry regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

This development came as the telco vowed not to stop the aggressive marketing campaign, which commenced in the last two years, even as it aims at two million subscribers before December, according to the chief executive, Mr. Maher Qubain.

This, he also said has facilitated the growth of the telco’s subscriber base by 350 per cent since 206 when the license was issued by the telecom regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Speaking at the media launch to commemorate the successful aim at a million subscribers, he said that Starcomms now inspire to gain two million before the end of this year.

While commending the subscribers on Starcomms nationwide, Mr. Qubain noted that this achievement would not have been made possible without them, just as he pledged an improved quality of service beyond what is currently available.

According to him, Starcomms is investing millions of Naira this year to improve its customer service centres across the country and open new ones to further draw its offerings nearer to the citizenry.

He also said that since 2005 Starcomms has consistently achieved over 50 per cent growth in all key performance indices, which further boosted the rolling out of the 0702-8 range of mobile numbers last year.

He explained that the 0702-8 series operates on the CDMA 2000 platform, and enables subscribers enjoy the roaming mobility that was once the exclusive preserve of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) lines.

Mr. Qubain listed some features of the telco to include its superior voice clarity, flexibility and mobility, enabling subscribers to use their phones in different parts of the country, besides eliminating the challenge of inter-connectivity between GSM and CDMA technologies.

Additionally, he said that the company presently employs 600 Nigerians with a further plan to employ additional 500 before the end of the year.

He gave kudos to Starcomms subscribers for making the growth projection a reality and promised that they will continue to improve on customer relations.
