Chief executive officer, MMF, Mrs. Aisha Oyebode, represented at the occasion by the programmes analyst, Mr. Oyeleye Aro, said the presentation was aimed at introducing the students to computer education, improve their skills as well as aid learning and work environment of the school.
A press statement from MMF and made available to Champion Infotel, quoted Mrs. Oyebode as saying that the gesture which is in partnership with Computer Aid International, is another demonstration of MMF’s commitment to reducing poverty and promoting self reliance through technical skills acquisition as well as improving the method of teaching education generally.
She said that Beeri High School was the second beneficiary the foundation has equipped its computer laboratory.
She disclosed that the first batch was donated to Runfa College, Kano, the alma mater of the late head of state, Gen. Murtala Muhammed.
Also, a Lagos-based civil society group had benefited from the foundation’s computer programme to improve their work efficiency.
Receiving the computers on behalf of the school community, Mrs. Joy Nunieh, a legal practitioner and prominent Ogoni community leader thanked the foundation for the gesture while promising that power generating sets would soon be installed to ensure the smooth running of the computers.
Some dignitaries at the event were Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Tonye Harry, Hon. Dum Dekor, amongst other prominent Ogoni leaders.
