Imo transforms through ICT with DNA

DETERMINED to transform governance through the adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) strategies, the Imo State government is set to enlist sophisticated pool of ICT professionals known as Digital Network Architects (DNA) to drive the state towards an e-economy, reports CHARLES OKOH.

The group of seasoned professionals, according to a press statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Imo State Governor, Ms. Angela Nkwo, would comprise mostly youths from the state both at home and in the diaspora with exceptional flair for ICT.

Ms. Nkwo also quoted the Executive Assistant to the Governor on ICT, Mr. Obi Uchendu, as saying that the DNA would constitute the technical framework for a digital economy in the heartland state.

“Just like the biological DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) which is the blueprint that determines the characteristics of every organism and the fundamental building block of all living things, the Digital Network Architects would be the brain box to drive the digital revolution in the state which would comprise e-governance, e-commerce, e-learning, e-policing and an entirely e-economy,” he said.

Mr. Uchendu said that ICT is the driving force of all developed nations and that all developing nations should as well invest and be driven by ICT, adding that India currently exports ICT manpower to the world under a specialized scheme.

He expressed confidence that the assemblage of the DNA would help build the much needed data base of highly proficient ICT experts from the state.

“Besides driving the e-revolution, a defined pool and database of Imo youths with very high ICT acumen would easily distinguish Imo State as the ICT manpower resource base of the nation and a one-stop shop for the scarce ICT manpower,” he submitted.
