Senior Reporter with IT & Telecom Digest, Mr. Seun Igbalode, has clinched the 2008 edition of the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) award in the MTN sponsored Telecom Reporter of the Year category.
The NMMA recognizes outstanding performance by journalists in different areas of the media and is regarded as the premier awards for excellence in journalism.Mr.
Igbalode was presented the award at the grand reception of the event which was held at the Banquet Hall of the Royal Tropicana Hotel, Kano State.
The Telecom Reporter of the Award is endowed by leading telecom operator, MTN Nigeria, as a way of encouraging the reportage of the industry that continues to attract rave comments.
The award prize included a laptop and the award plaque which was presented to the recipient at the occasion by the External Communications Manager, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Andrew Okeleke.
Speaking at the grand presentation ceremony which was held last month, former Information Minister and chairman of the awards nominating panel as well as a member of the Board of Trustees, Prince Tony Momoh, revealed that more than 400 reporters made entries for this year’s awards ceremony and there were 44 categories in all.
Reacting to the award won by Mr. Igbalode, the Editor-in-Chief of IT & Telecom Digest, Mr. Mkpe Abang said, he is proud of him.
“I know he will go places. At IT & Telecom Digest we crave for excellence and we will continue to encourage him. It is a challenging field; and, for Seun to have come out tops in such a competitive field also goes to show that we are living up to the professional goals we set for ourselves as a media house,” Abang said.
At the 2007 edition of the NMMA which was hosted by the Osun State government, Mr. Igbalode was the first runner up in the Telecom Reporter of the Year category. He was also nominated in the Capital Market Reporter of the Year Category at the same awards ceremony.
