Alao-Akala launches Omatek, CANi phase-2

Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, last weekend launched the second phase of the Omatek Ventures Plc and Computer for All Nigerian Initiative (CANi) scheme in his domain, asserting that with this development, the State is now electronic governance (e-govt) compliant.

Speaking at the occasion, which saw to about 800 Omatek brand of Personal Computers (PCs) being distributed to interested civil servants at a subsidized rates guaranteed by the government, Gov. Alao-Akala noted that a total of 600 workers in the state public service had benefited in the first phase of the scheme, last year.

He also said that internet wireless network had already been connected to all government agencies in the state with a view to keeping the civil servants abreast of modern management techniques and ensure effective communication link among governmental and non-governmental agencies.

His administration, the governor said, had adopted CANi based on recommendations of a Committee saddled with the responsibility in view of the desire of the government to computerize the State Public Service.

Equally, he said, plans have been made to assist interested public servants to procure computers of various configurations through the two CANi accredited original equipment manufacturers, mainly, Brian Integrated Systems Limited and Omatek Ventures Limited, among others.

While commending the two companies for partnering with the State Government in this regard, Gov. Alao-Akala posited that his administration in its commitment to the programme had taken cognizance of the paramount role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a sine qua non of e-governance in the State public service, adding that internet wireless network had already been connected to all government agencies in the state.

“This will facilitate socio-economic and educational development of Oyo State and as a means of facilitating effective service delivery by civil and public servants to members of the public thereby giving them value for taxes they paid to government,” he asserted.

Alao-Akala further called for improved performance and renewed commitment to duties from civil and public servants in the state just as he assured them of his administration’s continued commitment to their welfare as a means of motivating dedicated, efficient and loyal officers.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Omatek Ventures Plc, Mrs. Florence Seriki, spoke on the major milestones of her company explaining that it is the first company in the continent of Africa to produce locally assembled computer cases, speakers, flat screens and home entertainment speakers from completely knocked down (CKD).
