THE umbrella body of telecommunications companies in the country, Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) has advanced plans to host a one-day Stakeholders’ Educational Summit on Nigerian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Lagos.
ATCON through its president and sub-group coordinator on consulting and training, Dr. Emmanuel Ekweum and Mr. Chrysantus Okon, in a press statement made available to Champion Infotel at the weekend, said the event scheduled for Thursday, April 30, this year, with the theme “State of Nigerian Information Communication Technology Education: Challenges and Prospects.
According to them, the event would hold at the Fortune Hall, Golden Gate Chinese Restaurants, Ikoyi.
They noted that the Nigerian ICT has witnessed tremendous growth in recent times and for such effects to continue there is need to ensure large critical means of highly skilled technical manpower to ensure sustainability and rapid expansion growth and development of the Nigerian digital industry.
“ATCON strongly believes that for Nigerian ICT to continuously maintain its position of relevance in the globe concerted effort must be made toward exposing our ICT professional to the development and application of latest technologies,” the officials said.
The summit, they said, would attract participants including the Minister of Information and Communications Technology; Minister of Education; Minister of Science and Technology; Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and State Commissioners for Science, Technology and education.
Others are expected from the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Vice Chancellors of Universities (Federal, States and Private) Deans of Faculties of Engineering Technology and Science, Solutions Providers, the mass media, high networth individuals, and students of higher institutions.
