The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has pledged the National Assembly commitment to assist NIGCOMSAT Ltd to appropriate adequate funds for NigComSat 2 and 3, reports CHARLES OKOH.
Speaking during a visit to NigComSAT ground station complex at Obasanjo Space Center along airport road, Abuja, Friday last weekend, Senator Ekweremadu said the National Assembly will do everything to assist in the actualization of NigComSat 2 and 3.
A press statement endorsed by the Manager, Internal Communications at NigcomSat Limited, Samiya H. Usman, quoted Senator Ekweremadu as saying that it would help the country to become a contemporary of other nations but commercially viable as well as help the nation to be counted when technology issues are discussed.
He also urged the management of NIGCOMSAT Ltd to bring stakeholders especially state governors, ministers, captains of industries to appreciate the technological drive Nigeria has.
Earlier on, the Managing Director, Mr. Ahmed Rufai told the august visitor that NIGCOMSAT trained engineers now perform well as their counterparts in the space industry in other parts of the world.
He explained that the ground station antennas that were initially installed by the Chinese are now being installed by the Nigerian engineers as a demonstration of technology know-how acquisition.
And called on the National Assembly to assist as they had done before for the country to benefits from the satellite technology and its spin-off.
