The Nominating Committee (NomCom) of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has given April 15 deadline for the accepting of application into leadership positions in the Internet coordinating agency.
This, the committee said is the time to apply to become one of the global leadership volunteers who help in the policies and processes that shape the future of the Internet.
A press statement made available to Champion Infotel showed that the deadline for applications through the Nominating Committee for leadership positions on the Board, At Large Advisory Committee, Country Code Names Supporting Organization and Generic Names Supporting Organization is Wednesday, 15 April.
Chair, Nominating Committee and former member of ICANN’s Board of Directors, Ms Tricia Drakes, said that they received an impressive range of statements of interest from all over the world before now.
She encouraged people who want to be part of the decision-making process for tomorrow’s Internet to apply, noting that so far, most of the applications came from Asia and Europe.
“This year’s Nominating Committee has really focused on outreach and accessibility, running events at ICANN’s Mexico City meeting, and we really hope to see more applications from Latin America and the Caribbean before the deadline on 15 April,” she said.
Explaining that the Committee is independent of ICANN and is tasked with searching the world for experienced individuals to fill key positions on ICANN’s Board and its Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees. This year, the available positions to be filled include three board directors, one GNSO council member, one ccNSO Council member and three At Large Advisory Committee members.
Pointing out that ICANN covers agreed travel expenses directly related to ICANN duties, while the information on applying is available at http://nomcom.icann.org/.
