APC unveils ‘Server Rooms Made Easy’

Global leader in critical power and cooling services, APC by Schneider Electric has unveiled ‘Server Rooms Made Easy’ at the just concluded Middle East and Africa IT Managers Forum and Expo 2009 in Lagos.

Territory account manager for English speaking West Africa at APC, Mr. Kennedy Otedoh, said the company’s “Server Rooms Made Easy” was launched to delegates to create more enlightenment among the participants, most of who were IT managers and senior representatives of their companies.

He stressed that Information Technology (IT)-based Small and Medium Business (SMB) for this year is set to grow by 3.2 per cent, which is against the 1.7 per cent by large business spending.

“Despite the current poor economic conditions, the midsized market will emerge as especially important for technology providers, particularly in firms with 100 to 499 employees. These figures highlight the importance of the server room market for our partners across the globe,” he said.

Kennedy used the platform to address current trends within this space, which he described as a go-to-market strategy for this sector as well as solutions available to enable businesses to power, cool, manage and monitor and service their server rooms.

One such solution as the APC InRow SC Systems, he noted, that a new self-contained, integrated cooling enclosure is ideal for network closet and server room environments.

These systems, he said, offer the flexibility to be deployed as a fully contained IT environment, meaning no need for remote heat exchangers, or as a partially contained system that can be easily added as a retrofit to allow for seamless growth within existing space.

“Complete with up to 7kW of cooling capacity, a 600mm wide rack enclosure, and front and rear containment options, these new cooling systems monitor and actively adjust cooling capacity to ensure proper server inlet temperatures,” he said.

Network closets and server rooms, he explained, are critical systems within a customer’s IT environment, requiring high availability to support essential business applications.

Adding his view, regional director, Africa, Indian Ocean Islands and South Caribbean at APC by Schneider Electric, Mr. Carl Kleynhans, pointed out that the new APC InRow SC Systems could provide the flexibility network managers need for changing IT environments in self-contained systems designed and engineered to work together in a scalable modular architecture.

He further said that the InRow SC Systems are simple, self-contained units including an APC InRow SC row-based cooling solution, APC NetShelter SX rack enclosure and APC Rack Air Containment options, and offering ease of installation and mobility during changes. Intelligent and manageable components make the system network-enabled and self monitoring. Containment wrapped around IT rack and cooling creates, he said, are usually located in an isolated environment which capsulate that it could be placed in most surroundings with low noise impact as well as the option to add security solutions.

As said by him, this new system features include offering of predictable cooling for server room and wiring closet environments in a row-based architecture, with such as active response controls, individual hot swappable, variable speed fans, remote management capabilities, coil freeze protection, dry contact output and horizontal airflow pattern.

In addition, he APC NetShelter Enclosure – provides a reliable rack-mounting environment for high-density and networking equipment including mounts for two APC metered PDUs (not included with bundle) in one rear channel, multi-vendor equipment compatibility, numbered U positions, removable reversible fully ventilated doors and simple baying installation.

In addition, he said, APC Rack Air Containment is a modular system designed to work in conjunction with the APC NetShelter SX enclosure and InRow cooling unit to provide maximum cooling predictability, capacity, and efficiency.

“Easy to install, the APC Rack Air Containment unit attaches to the front and rear of the NetShelter SX rack enclosure thereby eliminating mixing of hot and cold air streams,” he declared.

The APC InRow SC Systems, he further said, are currently available in Europe, Middle East and Africa, just as the solution could also be configured as a fully redundant system to provide customers with additional availability.
