The inaugural edition of Telecom Device Forum, would be presided over by the chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Mr. Gbenga Adebayo.
Telecom Device Forum is a technology discussion platform designed for key actors in the telecommunications, banking, e-payment channel providers, as well as device manufacturers, network operators, software vendors, distributors and retailers in addition to internet service providers.
Mr. Adebayo would be joined by Dr. Chris Uwaje, the regional director, D-Link West Africa, Managing Director, Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), Dr. Paul Lawal, managing director, Valucard Nigeria, Mr. Kyari Bukar, even as the Sales director, Harris Stratex Nigeria Mr. Bekele Tadesse, would form lead speakers at the forum among others.
A press statement made available to ITRealms Online by the organizers, the Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, weekend, informed that they would present valid forecasts of developments in the telecom industry and examine the driving forces behind these developments especially in e-payment and emerging technologies at the forum slated for September 22 at Golden Gate Restaurant in Lagos.
With the theme “Telecom Industry Fuelling the Future of e-Payment System” the forum, the organizers said, promises to give both the layperson and the professional an update of emerging technologies, e-payment and handheld devices and related business trends and events.
Telecom/Device Forum is being put together by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Communication Week Media, publishers of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek.
The head, public affairs at NCC, Mr. Reuben Mouka and editor, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek Mr. Ken Nwogbo, were quoted as saying that the forum is designed to offer the populace an enlightenment session on emerging technologies, e-payment and handheld devices.
According to the statement, Adebayo, a telecom engineer of note was chosen to chair the event because of his unbridled passion for the growth and development of the telecommunications industry.
Adebayo had a successful career with Siemens before he joined VGC Communications Ltd now bought by MTN Nigeria, as the technical manager in 2000.
Following this success, Adebayo was promoted as the first Nigerian General Manager of the company in 2002 and under his management, the company grew rapidly from a community telephone service provider to full national operator status within five years.
Currently, Adebayo manages a telecommunications outsourcing company, Community Network Support Services (CNSS), for big network operators in the country.
Uwaje who will x-ray different security approach towards protecting e-payment system has been variously named in the IT industry but easily identified the “oracle” of the industry.
He was named IT Personality of the Year in 2008 and is the regional director for D-Link International in-charge of operations in Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, West Africa’s technological and economic powerhouse.
Uwaje is a renowned expert in the fields of engineering solutions, research, software design and development respectively.
