OAU to honour Ndukwe with Doctor of Tech

As part of the upcoming convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Michael Faborode has announced the conferment of the Honourary Doctor of Technology ( Honoris Causa) on the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe.

Prof. Faborode who made this known in Lagos, last weekend, during the conferment  of distinguished alumnus award to graduates of Ife, noted their marks in leadership of the Nigerian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry.

The event organised by the Lagos chapter of OAU Alumni Association, afford the VC the chance to point out that Ndukwe’s stride in telecom industry and the economy could not be wished away, hence distinguishing him as one of the four meritorious recipients of the honorary degrees to be conferred during the November 2009 convocation ceremonies.

“You know that OAU doctorate is one of the most prestigious. You do not buy it or lobby for it. The Senate of the University has considered Dr. Ndukwe worthy of this degree and this will be one of the major highlights of the convocation ceremony”, he said.

The event also witnessed the conferment of Distinguished Alumni Award of the University on graduates of OAU who are holding key positions in the ICT industry, including the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Professor Cleopas Angaye, CEO of Omatek Computers, Mrs. Florence Seriki, President of the Association of Telecom Companies of Nigeria, ATCON, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Commandant of Nigerian Army Signal Corp, Apapa, Major General G. Umoh, CEO of Chams  Nigeria Plc, Mr. Gbenga Aladekomo, CEO of MainOne, Ms.  Funke Opeke, CEO of Linkserve, Mr. Chima Onyekwere, CEO of TraxAxxent, Mrs. Bunmi Afolabi, CEO of New Horizon, Mr. Tim Akano, the Chief Technical Officer of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Karl Toriola, the Nigeria’s ICT Ambassador, Mr. Gbenga Sesan. The event also witnessed the launch of e-Magazine, published by Mr. Aaron Ukodie, the immediate past Telecom Editor of Daily Independent  Newspaper who is also  a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University.
