MTN to showcase @ ‘09 AfricaCom

Continental leader in mobile communications, the MTN Group has concluded plans to showcase its avalanche of products at the 2009 AfricaCom, which starts on Wednesday, just as MTN Group Executive on Regulatory Affairs, Mr. Zolisa Masiza and chief executive officer of MTN Uganda, Mr. Themba Khumalo, would be speaking at the conference.

The premier telecoms conference on the continent, which takes place in Cape Town, South Africa, between 11 and 12 November, has the theme “Sustaining Growth in Africa’s Communication Markets.”

AfricaCom attracts over 3,500 attendees, 200 operator companies 75 speakers and over 220 exhibitors.

While Mr. Masiza would be speaking on ‘Business Models and Operational Strategies to Ensure Operators Can Reach More Customers Efficiently,’ Mr. Khumalo will deliver an
‘How Is The Global Economy Affecting Africa’s Telecom Markets.’

Masiza would also be part of the CEO roundtable with the topic ‘Investing in Initiatives to Reach New Customers.’

MTN South Africa and MTN Uganda have been short-listed in three categories. Whereas the MTN Uganda has been nominated for Best New Service Award for Google SMS, MTN South Africa was short-listed for the Green Telecoms Award for their solar and wind powered base station in Kleinaarpen in the Northern Cape and the Changing Lives Award category for their Telemedecine Workstation initiative aimed at creating more efficiency in processing patients at medical clinics.

MTN Group Executive for Corporate Affairs, Ms. Nozipho January-Bardill, said AfricaCom presents MTN with an opportunity to reflect on its business models and external factors that impact on its business.

“We are excited to be part of the 2009 edition of AfricaCom and believe that the lessons we will glean from the event will stand us in good stead. AfricaCom serves as a platform that allows us to contribute to discourse on the issues that impact on our business. The event also provides us with an opportunity to share experiences and best practice with our peers who, like MTN, have operations in Africa and beyond,” she said, stressing that MTN stand B03 at the International Convention Centre, has been confirmed.
