Onitsha roll-out, Igwe Achebe endorses Multi-Links

The Obi Agbogidi of Onitsha, His royal majesty, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, has endorsed the roll out of Multi-Links Telkom’s services and operations in Onitsha and its environs.

His royal blessing came during a courtesy call by Multi-Links Telkom on Monday by the officials of the telco at his residence in the commercial city of Onitsha.

The paramount ruler assured the management of Multi-Links Telkom of necessary support to stabilize and grow its business in Onitsha and its environs.

The visit also afforded the management of Multi-Links Telkom the opportunity to introduce its lines of products and services to the monarch who expressed delight that Multi-Links Telkom had brought further prosperity to the historic town.

The visit to the monarch was also used as an occasion to introduce the company’s regional executive to the southern region of Nigeria, Mr. Chukwunonso Inoma, an indigene of Onitsha.

While welcoming the team led by the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dr. Setumo Mohapi, comprising Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Mrs. Ijeoma Abazie, Chief of Staff to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Bonisile Gbantile, Regional Executive South, Mr. Chukwunonso Inoma and Manager Corporate Affairs, Mr. Olubayo Abiodun, the Obi assured that Multi-links Telkom would be availed all the necessary support for the setting up of its business.

Dr. Achebe also noted that the community was ready and willing to support Multi-Links Telkom’s business with requisite manpower for the success of the business.

According to him, Onitsha is abundantly blessed with highly qualified professionals in all spheres of learning.

Additionally, he said that the community also has the capacity for other cadres of skills and non skills manpower requirements of the company.

He advised the team to channel all requests for security support for its business through the statutory agencies of government and warned against relying on the use of non statutory bodies and individuals masquerading as security agents or agencies.

“We will give you the support to set up your business. But you must make your business beneficial to our people,” he said, stressing that Nigeria is in dire need of fixed line telephone services which seemed to have disappeared from the telecommunications landscape in the country.

Responding to this call, the COO noted that Telkom SA which took over ownership of Multi-Links Telecommunications Limited (MLTL) recently is the largest fixed line operator on the continent of Africa with very robust technologies, management expertise and financial strength. He said that in addition to the current operations in the country for mobile and broadband solutions, Telkom proposes ultimately to accelerate the increased proliferation and use of fixed lines in Nigeria.

Dr. Mohapi assured the paramount ruler that Multi-Links Telkom’s employment principle is hinged on equal opportunity to all Nigerians.

Specifically, he said, that the employment scheme of Multi-Links Telkom’s nationwide rollout is based on mutual engagement with all the communities where the brand plans to establish presence.

As said by him, since the major investment in the nationwide rollout would be in the build out of Base Transceiver Stations and other similar facilities, the bulk of the company’s manpower needs would be in the areas of electronic engineers, operations and administrative support staff.

Earlier, while introducing the mission of the company to the monarch, Mrs. Abazie acknowledged the moral support that the brand had received from the palace and the government of Anambra State.

She said that such warm welcome had ensured an unhindered operational take off of Multi-Links Telkom’s services and operations in Anambra State in both Onitsha and Awka, the state capital.

The CCAO informed the monarch that Multi-Links Telkom was presently implementing a massive nation-wide rollout which has culminated in the commissioning of its services in Onitsha, Awka and Enugu.

She said as well that services and operations would soon take off in Asaba, Nnewi, Port Harcourt and Calabar among other cities, towns and locations across the southern region of Nigeria.
