The new Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Mohammed A. Abubakar has assumed office last weekend in Abuja with a promise to spur development of science in the country.
Chief Press Secretary to the Ministry, Mr. Tai Shobajo, confirmed this to Champion Infotech, saying that the Minister came to the Ministry of Science and Technology shortly after he was sworn in at Aso Villa, promised to work diligently to ensure rapid promotion and development of Science and Technology in Nigeria.
Shobajo quoted Prof. Abubakar as enjoining all the directors in the ministry to ensure that all hands must be on deck to move science sector forward.
“We have to start thinking of how to move science sector forward, he said.”
Prof. Abubakar who is a former Vice Chancellor of Kebbi State University insisted that science must be seen as a veritable factor of production that would be felt by the generality of Nigerians.
According to him, his presence in the Ministry is to add value and improve on Research and Development (R&D) results on ground as an expert in science.
In her welcome remark, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Fatima Binta Bamidele, assured the Minister of necessary support and pledged her loyalty and commitment towards the success of the Ministry.
Prof. Abubakar succeeds Dr. Alhassan Bako.
