Lagos-based digital media marketing company, Wild Fusion has consummated a deal with the British Broadcasting corporation (BBC) digital business division on internet and mobile platforms with an interactive session in Lagos, just as Nigeria is the largest online audience of BBC.
Confirming this, Managing Director, Wild Fusion, Mr. Abasiama Idaresit, said the development would spur great opportunities for advertisers and brands that are seeking to engage consumers via internet and mobile especially those targeting a premium audience.
According to him, the BBC website is among the top most visited online destination for Nigerians and attracts the more affluent, professional, educated Nigerian audience.
He disclosed that over 80 per cent of Nigerian internet users access the BBC websites on a daily basis. “At least, 65 per cent of the BBC audience discuss BBC stories with their peers and almost a quarter of the users participate actively in the BBC forums,” he said.
For the Digital Business Development Manager, BBC Worldwide, Isla Pitt McLeod, the international website of the broadcasting giant, www.bbc.com, is one of the largest broadcast news websites in the world, with over 29 million captivated users each month.
Today, McLeod said, BBC boasts of 58 international news bureaux and 250 correspondents around the world, and proud itself as one of the most respected sources of impartial and global news.
“We know the opportunities that exist in the digital space and our visit to Nigeria is occasioned by the need to increase awareness on the media opportunities that exist on BBC digital platform (internet and mobile) because with over 10 million impressions monthly, Nigeria is the largest BBC mobile audience by country in Africa.
Their visit, McLeod added was largely to promote digital media opportunities that exist on BBC Internet and mobile platform to Nigerian brands and advertising agencies.
“We also educate members of the public on the need to embrace digital marketing,” McLeod said, stressing that plans have been concluded for the BBC team and its Nigerian representative, Wild Fusion, a Lagos based digital media company to visit notable Nigerian companies and advertising agencies.
With over 80 years of pioneering broadcasting in television, radio, digital, the BBC is one of the largest international broadcast organizations in the world. Most recently, their online outlet, the BBC.com won the 2009. Webby Award and the People’s Voice Award for ‘Best News Site’.
