Etisalat eyes 7m subscribers by Dec

Chief executive officer (CEO) of Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Steven Evans has confirmed the attainment of the over 6 million active subscriber base by the mobile operator and is actively working to end 2010 with 7 million.

Evans, who spoke at AfriCom, which ended in Cape Town, South last weekend, said the telecommunications company has exceeded 6 million subscribers and is on the heels of 7m before December 31, this year.

“We recently crossed the 6 million subscriber mark and we hope to reach 7 million before the end of the year,” he declared.

Evans recalled that Etisalat had in July announced the attainment of four million subscribers, promising continued innovation and quality services backed with aggressive densification of its network recognising quality as the bane of the Nigerian telecommunications industry.

The Etisalat Nigeria boss ascribed what he described as massive acceptance and phenomenal growth attained in subscriber base to the yearning of Nigerians for superior service qualities that enable them stay in touch with their family and loved ones as well as their businesses and business associates.

He noted that the 6 million active subscribers in just two years in a saturated market like Nigeria is evidence that Etisalat customers are satisfied customers.

According to him, Etisalat has witnessed consistent and rapid growth in its subscriber base since it formally commenced commercial operations in the country in October 2008 after a grand and innovative entry into the market with the 0809uchoose campaign.

He recalled that the campaign offered prospective subscribers the opportunity to choose their own numbers on the Etisalat network.

Etisalat, he said, currently has coverage in all the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
