Umuahia, Sapele, 4 others join Starzone

Acclaimed fourth largest mobile operator in the country and operator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Starcomms plc, has disclosed that more cities has been covered by the network just as it unveils StarZone package to lower call tariffs in Umuahia, Sapele, Abeokuta, Maiduguri, Bauchi and Jos.

The package, the Chief Commercial Officer, Starcomms, Mr. Tushar Maheshwari said was first introduced in Benin-City, Owerri, Uyo, Warri, Katsina, Enugu, Ogbomosho, Nnewi and Awka, a few weeks ago and has recorded an overwhelming participation by customers in these cities.

He explained that customers in Star-Zone cities have the opportunity of making on-net calls for N4 per minute during peak and off-peak period.

“So travelers into any of these cities from anywhere in Nigeria will also enjoy lower tariff on on-net Starcomms calls for as long as they are there,” he said.

Mr. Maheshwari also said that the success recorded in the response of the people in the first set of cities on the StarZone package inspired the Starcomms to extend the gesture to other cities. According to him, once a customer leaves any of the StarZone cities for a place like Lagos, he would no longer enjoy the benefits of the Star-Zone option.

“The Star-zone rate is applicable only to prepaid customers,” he said, stressing that on a regular basis Starcomms strives to ensure that the best telephone services that Nigerians get come from network.

“That is why we seek every way to add value to the experience they get from us always. StarZone is another way of caring for Starcomms customers in a special way. As a Nigerian company, we are determined to continue giving our customers top-of-the-range services that would not hurt their pocket,” he assured.

The company which recently expanded network by deploying more cell site in diverse locations across the country, he said, was to boost the quality of service that customers enjoy on Starcomms network.

Cell sites, he said, are used for the transmission of radio waves, to which calls are converted, from one cell phone or data device to another phone or data device on the same network or on other networks.

“Where there are enough cell sites to cover a wide area, the range of each is set to ensure that there is enough overlap for ‘handover’ to and from others. The size of a site depends on the area of coverage that’s needed and the number of calls that are made in that area. Increasing the number of sites implies that Starcomms has the capacity to accept and transmit more number of calls as well as cover a wider geographical range, giving out clearer signals,” he elucidated.
