The Director, Management Information System (MIS) Unit, University of Ibadan, Dr Ganiy Raji has identified adequate knowledge of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as a tool to reduce unemployment in the society, reports DELE OGUNYEM.
He stated this in Ibadan at the graduation ceremony of over 100 people who participated in a free computer empowerment training programme organised by a Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Centre for Initiatives Against Destitution and Crime (CIADEC).
Dr. Raji maintained that with ICT knowledge, youths and unemployed ones would not only make ends meet but would also be job creators. He added that through some components of ICT like website and software programme designing, wealth would be created while unemployed youths could be easily empowered.
Dr. Raji, however, cautioned youths to avoid wasting of time and resources while accessing social media platforms such as Facebook, and Youtube, noting that the page was meant for advancement of knowledge.
Earlier, CIADEC President, Mr. Abdul-Fatai Abdul-Azeez explained that the programme was aimed at providing sustainable opportunities for the trainees to face future challenges in ICT world.
Some of the ICT courses touched during the training include Office Computing & Management, Computer Engineering & Networking, Website Design & E- Commerce as well as Computer Aided Design.
