The second national operator, Globacom has explained how subscribers on its network could redeem promo prizes.
Giving this insight, Globacom’s Head, Value Added Services (VAS), Mr. Samson Isa, said that the explanation became necessary due to recent activities by impostors and fraudsters who try to take advantage of the company’s well-intentioned promos to defraud innocent members of the public.
He said that such fraudsters usually send Short Messaging Service (SMS) asking subscribers to part with various sums of money or recharge cards in order to redeem prizes which they claim subscribers have won in the promos.
According to Mr. Isa, Globacom does not inform its subscribers of promo winnings through text messages or by electronic mail (e-mail).
“Any winner of any prize in our ongoing promotions will be contacted only by a phone call from a Glo agent. Such subscribers can also take the extra step of verifying such information by calling 121 for prepaid subscribers or 200 for post paid users. They should also visit their nearest Gloworld for verification whenever notified of any winning,” he said.
Isa advised customers not to respond to fraudulent promotions requesting bank details and confidential information such as ATM numbers, PIN numbers and passwords, or the maiden name of the subscriber’s mother as Glo will never send SMS asking for such confidential information.
Also, he said, Globacom would never ask subscribers to send recharge cards to any phone number in order to redeem prizes which they had legitimately won.
“The Glo website, www.gloworld.com is the only authentic website for subscribers to see the terms and conditions of the company’s various marketing promotions. Customers should therefore be wary of fake websites,” he declared.
Mr. Isa further noted that Glo is currently running the ‘Glo text4millions’ and the Glo ‘Get More, Get Lucky’ promos in which subscribers are winning fantastic prizes such as millions of naira in cash, cars, laptops, motorcycles, and millions of naira worth of airtime.
