The Nigerian Defence Headquarter (NDH) is partnering the EC-Council and New Horizons on cyber security seminar to be held in Abuja tomorrow, Thursday.
Public relations executive at New Horizons, Mr. Akinyemi Sokoya, who confirmed this saying that its indication is that Nigerian Defence Headquarters is not resting on its oars as regards the war against threats to National security through the ever advancing mechanisms of Information Technology.
The IT security conference, he said, is aimed at adequately sensitization of members of the Armed Forces, principal officers of security agencies, the paramilitary formations and captains of industries in all aspects of the economy on how to secure the virtual world for National Security.
“This is in partnership with EC-Council, an international cyber security education body and New Horizons, world’s largest IT and business skills training company with presence in 70 countries and on 6 continents,” he said.
Sokoya also said that the one day seminar would hold tomorrow at the Command Officers Mess, Asokoro, Abuja with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Dr. Lamido Sanusi as the keynote speaker while the EC-Council President, Mr. San Jay Bavisi as the guest speaker.
He listed some of the topics on agenda to include cyber security, preventing Insider Data Leaks, Forensic analysis, Network Defence, Next Generation Infrastructure strategies and e-Governance.
Therefore, he said, the Nigerian Defence Headquarters headed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Oluseyi Petinrin is poised to tackle the issues of Cyber attacks or threats to the Nigerian cyber space heads-on with the acquisition of relevant knowledge aimed at adequately beefing up security amongst its personnel.
He added that the theme of the conference, would focus on “Securing the Virtual World for National Security” with the Director General/CEO of NITDA, Prof. Cleopas Angaye as moderator.
Giving some insight on the seminar, Mr. Bavisi cautioned that “a military attack based on digital sabotage or acts of cyber breach, could be misplaced, if such decisions to attack are taken out of attribution, but at the same time not responding will now be seen as a sign of weakness.”
Determining the source of attacks, he said, is difficult, noting that an attack might be traced to computers in a given country, but that doesn’t mean the government of that country is behind it.
“It might be launched by zombie machines in that country that are controlled by someone else. Therefore, having an in-depth knowledge of the various aspects of IT Security, as offered by this conference will not only benefit the armed forces but the Security experts within and outside the country,” he said.
