Juwah, Angaye for GSM @ 10 forum

The duo of the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene Juwah and the Director General, Professor Cleopas Officer Angaye of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) are to lead speaker to the ‘A Decade of Mobile Services Celebration Forum’ slated to hold on August 4, this year.

The forum is jointly organized by the ICT Publishers Alliance in collaboration with NCC and NITDA, already has endorsement of some stakeholders including MTN and Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) as well as OpenMedia Limited led by the former regulator, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe.

Chairman of the organizers of the forum, ICT Publishers Alliance, Mr. Aaron Ukodie, noted that both regulatory bodies have officially confirmed their full participation at the event as partners to flag off the industry’s first multilateral effort at organizing a single event designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Nigeria’s mobile revolution and the connecting of over 70 per cent of the population within just a decade.

Prof. Angaye was quoted as saying that this is an event Nigerians should be proud of and by playing a key role in it is part of NITDA’s mandate to create awareness and Information Technology (IT) empowerment for a vast number of the citizens.

According to him, this revolution underscores the great economic potential of this country.

“We’re glad that the ICT Publishers Alliance has chosen to create a window for reflection on the successes of the last 10 years and to also task all stakeholders on the roadmap for the next 10 years,” he said.

Angaye who received members of the Alliance in his office, at the weekend, collaboration would help move the Nigeria better.

“We are not making progress because there is no planning and collaboration,” he decried.

Earlier during a visit of the group to NCC boss, Dr. Eugene Juwah assured of the Commission’s support and promise to attend in person.

“As a regulatory institution, we look forward to collaborating with organized bodies within the sector to better improve the deliverables that can come from this industry,” he said.

A Decade of Mobile Services Celebration Forum, he noted would provide a very critical platform with which the regulator could join other stakeholders in taking a complete assessment of the industry and share ideas that will best improve the stake of all stakeholders.

“We are glad that the media, an important stakeholder is at the forefront of bringing everyone together and through partnership with the NCC, we expect positive results,” Juwah said.

One of the proponents of the Alliance, Mr. Ken Nwogbo assured the Commission that they would be hosting one of the best events ever held in the last decade for the industry.

“The Alliance is a combination of media entrepreneurs who have proved their mettle and who are partnering to provide organized and sane direction for an industry that is perpetually in transition,” he said told Juwah.

In the same manner while thanking the NITDA for its support, said Chairman of the ICT Publishers Alliance Aaron Ukodie of eWorld, commended the NITDA for its focus on capacity building in the last few years. He said the agency was preparing the grounds for the operation of the sector by more skilled Nigerians.

Equally speaking at NITDA, Mr. Ukodie commended the agency for its focus on capacity building in the last few years, stressing that NITDA was preparing the grounds for the operation of the sector by more skilled Nigerians.
