Computer Warehouse is best ICT firm in CSR - Group

Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) has been honoured as the “Best ICT Company in CSR” for educational and intellectual development by a group, CSR Nigeria award.

ITRealms Online recalls that the CSR Nigeria award prides itself as the nation’s highest award in terms of recognition accorded organisations that have exemplified themselves not only in their core functions, but have also given back to society enormously in areas of corporate social responsibility.

According to Head, Corporate Communications at CWG, Mr. Chidi Okpala, this award is coming at a time when CWG is about commencing the building of an ICT Park at the University of Lagos, where individuals would be prepared in hardware and software skills towards becoming professionals in ICT.

He explained that the choice for education by CWG as the core aspect of its social responsibility strategy is based on the company’s belief that the best way to create a technologically driven society is through the support and reward for technological expertise in higher institutions across locations where the company operates in Africa.

For instance, he said, that in Nigeria, this is fully operational, with active plans to support some selected higher institutions in Uganda and Ghana, adding that there is also an active plan to support institutions in Abuja and Port Harcourt as well.

Speaking during the event, Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Olatunji Babafemi, CSR Nigeria Awards, said the CSR Awards was launched by Ctru Concepts in order to recognize companies that have made a difference to the communities in which they are active through their CSR programmes, hence the body honors them for their outstanding, innovative and world-class products, services, projects and programmes in different categories.

Receiving this award for Computer Warehouse Group, Group Head, Human Resource, Mrs. Olapeju Ayo Fisher, expressed appreciation on behalf of the group, for the award, adding that CWG believes in strategically giving back to society.

“CWG believes in giving back to the society with clear a focus on education as an integral aspect of her corporate identity. Education offers young individuals the best opportunity in life to realize their dreams and become the leaders of tomorrow,” she said.

Hence as the Company expands beyond the shores of Nigeria, it is poised to replicate and fulfill these requirements in other African Countries,” she said.

Also, she noted that the company is poised to develop skills through its in house academy, where skills are nurtured and developed in hardware, software and communications, with a bid to send them back to society as professionals so that they can also provide the acquired expertise to other organisations or even set up technological outfits on their own.

“This award apart from being an honourable one, challenges us more as an organisation to continue the work of educational development. We hope it would also spur other organisations to support the further development of technology in Nigeria and by extension, the African Continent,” he said.
