He explained that USSD technology is pervasive, the experience intuitive and interactive, and the potential operational savings compelling.
“Today, only a small proportion of subscribers actively use non-voice services and with USSD, we can enable them to easily and conveniently discover and access an extensive catalog of mobile services,” Shanbhag said.
Noting that Comviva’s advanced platform and features allow subscribers to interact with their favorite applications, such as social networking, banking and other subscription services - delivering a seamless experience with potentially extended session times.
“Comviva’s USSD solution is the perfect solution to introduce mobile subscribers, with mass-market handsets, to new services and content – as well as enable cost-effective self-care,” Shanbhag said.
The vice president pointed out that with the GSM mobile subscriber community already over 5 billion strong, extending VAS across the entire user base, simply, uniformly and cost-effectively is key to enabling continued operator revenue growth.
Underlining the fact that Comviva’s USSD Service Suite is an end-to-end portfolio of solutions that sets new standards for user experience, interactivity, usability and mobile content consumption, even as Shanbhag said, the suite enables operators to launch a customer-centric retail model that simplifies service discovery and access.
Shanbhag maintained that USSD is up to 20 times more cost-efficient than Interact Voice Response (IVR) and integrates easily with existing legacy Short Messaging Service (SMS) applications while avoiding the need to continuously invest in new voice lines or SMSC capacity.
“By enabling users to perform multiple transactions in the same session, operators can launch interactive services and significantly enhance the subscriber’s engagement with the service brand,” the VP explained.
