Our expectation @ NigComSAT confab - FMS&T

The managing director of the Nigerian Communication Satellite (NigComSAT), Mr. Timasaniyu Ahmed-Rufai, has listed some of the expectations at the forthcoming stakeholders’ conference being put together by his firm.

According to him, it would be an interactive arena based on the expectation of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

“The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology expects the conference to serve as a two-way traffic for officials of NIGCOMSAT and Stakeholders in the industry. We will hear from them and they will hear from us,” he said in a press statement endorsed by the Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications, NigComSAT, Mr. Sonny Aragba-Akpore.

Mr. Ahmed-Rufai also said that the event slated for next Thursday, would provide an update on the replacement satellite, NigComSat-1R, which has neared its completion.

He said, the event would offer opportunity to explain the global acceptance and standard best industry practices on communications satellite operations and management as well as its transformative effect for wealth and job creation in a knowledge economy.

NigComSAT boss further said that the event could not have come at a better time than now that the Federal government transformation agenda has just begun, adding that NigComSat-1R would certainly provide the technological platform that would take the country to the next level.

He listed some of the speakers to include Dr. Eugene Juwah, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, immediate past Executive Vice Chairman NCC, Prof. Tak Utsumi, Chairman Global System Analysis Simulation Association of USA, Mr. Chris Uwaje, President ISPON, Prof. Charles Uwadia, President, Nigeria Computer Society, and Dr. Sola Afolabi of USAID/ West African Hub, Accra- Ghana.

Others, he said are Dr. Jimson Olufuye, President Information Technology Association of Nigeria(ITAN) Dr. Tomi Davies of Mobitel, Mr. Lanre Ajayi of PiNet Informatics, Ms Funke Opeke of Main One Cable Company and a lecturer at the University of Jos, Mr. Joe Anugu.

He emphasised that besides the speakers, chief executive officers and chieftains of Information and Communications sector, lawmakers, regulatory agencies and multi-nationals among others are expected at the conference scheduled for Abuja International Conference Centre.
