Cloud computing topped the agenda at the one-day workshop organized by the International Business Machines (IBM) and one of its local partners, Sunnet Systems in Lagos.

The workshop, which focus was on dynamic infrastructure and cloud computing attracted several industry professionals.

Speaking to newsmen, the managing director, Sunnet Systems, Mr. Peter Olagunju described cloud computing as having two stripes, namely the private and public cloud respectively.

According to him, private cloud could be likened to personalized activities or efforts of a company to preserve its services and data beyond the main system from where the system originates, which could come in form of backup of all kinds.

On the public cloud, he said this applies to the most known cloud system that are hosted at distance servers or data centers and only could be accessed via the internet.

He advised Nigerians and corporate to take advantage of cloud computing to ensure that data is always available for businesses to go on, especially when realizing that when Nigerians are sleeping, some other regions of the world are awake, hence business must continue on round the clock basis.

The world, he pointed is changing with the reality for organizations of every sizes from any part of the planet to function adequately.

He said that since the foundation of the Sunnet Systems, it has been in collaboration with IBM in the delivery of optimal services to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) market in the country.

He stressed that cloud services afford users to get what they need at auspicious time, which includes virtual servers and storage.

“It can provide significant economies of scale and greater business agility, while accelerating the pace of innovation,” he said.

IBM dynamic infrastructure, he said, provides the expertise to migrate, design, build and deploy clouds and the new business models they enable, adding that by leveraging thousands of cloud implementations and a growing ecosystem, IBM helps clients exploit the power of cloud computing to transform their businesses.

According to him, IBM is helping clients excel in cloud computing through the provision of secure and reliable Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions.
