MTN Nigeria supported the just ended 11th Badary Festival, which held between July 30 and August 6, this year.
The Regional Marketing Manager, Lagos, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Dola Bamgboye, said that the support saw the indigenes and residents alike in festive mood with the which introduced variety of excitements to the programme.
Mr. Bamgboye, who spoke on the essence of MTN’s participation in the festival, explained that the company’s role in the Badagry Festival as well as other cultural festivals across the country is in fulfillment of its brand essence of enriching lives.
He noted that the Badagry Festival, reputed as the finest cultural event in the community, is a reminiscent celebration of freedom from the tragedy of slave trade which plagued the community for over 300 years.
Unlike other cultural events held within the community, he pointed out that the festival featured a conglomeration of cultural performances and exhibition for the eight quarters of the Badagry community.
He said, the weeklong celebration started with a Slave Trade Abolition Remembrance Day which featured art exhibition, a lecture and cultural performances at the Badagry Heritage Museum.
“This was followed by the MTN-sponsored Oba Akran Cup football competition,” he said, adding that other activities included boat regatta, Zangbeto parade and Gbenopo Royal Carnival gala night.
The event, he said, was rounded off with prize and award presentation to several individuals and quarters of the community for their outstanding performances, just as there were mouth-watering prizes to customers who participated in raffle draw.
