Leading manufacturer of mobile devices, Nokia, has unveiled plans for a free three-day training workshop in Lagos, to give an overview of Java Me, review the exciting opportunities offered by Nokia’s Ovi Store, and cover Mobile Java programming essentials as well as mobile application development with Qt Quick.
Head, Ecosystem and Developer Experience, Nokia West Africa, Mr. Teemu Kiijarvi, at the monthly Mobile Monday (MoMo) meeting held in Lagos, said that the three-day training is targeted at developers who already have knowledge of Java but may be new to Java on Nokia mobile phones.
‘’Interested participants should know at least Java basics like working with Java projects in the Netbeans IDE before entering the course,’ he said.
A senior lecturer of software engineering at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland, Mr. Tony Torp, who heads mobile systems education and runs the smartphone lab of the University, is the facilitator of the training.
Equally speaking, Product & Services Manager, Nokia West Africa, Mr. Olumide Balogun, said the course module has been developed to get participants up to speed with creating, developing and publishing Java and Qt application for Nokia devices.
“The training will expose participants to Java training; Nokia SDK for Java, Nokia Ovi Suite and Qt training; Qt SDK 1.1.2,” he said.
Osagie Ogunbor, Head of Communication, Nokia West Africa, urged interested individuals, to register for the event online at http://www.developer.nokia.com noting that applicants would be selected on first-come, first-served basis.
Nokia’s new monetization opportunities for developers are tailored to local markets and include integrated operator billing with 112 operators in 36 markets, more than 25 times more operator billing integrations than Nokia’s nearest competitor.
Ovi Store has seen integrated operator in billing increase consumer transactions by up to four times and this, coupled with Nokia’s beta programs for in-app billing and in-app advertising, means more revenue opportunities for developers on Symbian.
