Turkey-based Nigerian founder of the Students Circle Network (SCN) Mr. Gossy Ukanwoke has said his team is trying to connect institutions through the use of technology and the Internet precisely.
Ukanwoke who is the chief executive officer of SCN, also said that they are making educational social through the network.
He made these remarks at a presentation to the 2011 of the EduNet Africa conference held recently at the University of Lagos, where he was represented by Ms Chichedo Rufina Anozie.
Since launched of the trial version of studentcircle.net on June 1, 2010, his team recorded about 5,000 students’ usage five months and by November last year, Student Circle Network became a member of the global Open Course Ware Consortium (OCWC).
The network, he said, began what he described as public service by December 2010 with over 8 million hits at the end of June 2011, even as 20,000 students have since joined in the usage of its offering with this period.
Currently, he said, they have partnerships with likes of Open Course Ware Consortium, which gives access to trusted unlimited course resources; Dell, Encipher and Kno for the hardware manufacturers; with over 200 OCW member universities, whereas InfiniteGraph offering the social graph custom no Structured Query Language (SQL) database.
The network, he said is for students in the universities, colleges and teachers.
Ukanwoke noted that the network offers solutions as academic resources, social study groups, profiles cum social network, international scholarships and internships.
His team, Ukanwoke stated is eager to connect Nigerian universities free of charge and urged them to take advantage of this offer to link to the network.
