Tinapa to host ISPON’s confab’11


All is now set for the 2011 Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria organized conference, slated for October 27 and 28 at the Tinapa, Calabar with the state government’s decision to host and made the event a success.

Chairman, publicity and communication committee of ISPON, Mr. Moses Braimah affirmed this in a press statement made available to ITRealms Online, saying that the stage is now set for the biggest and most inspiring software event in the nation’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) space.

“It is indeed the enabling platform for Nigeria software industry to make a global statement on the e-knowledge ecosystem,” he said, adding that the Cross River State in collaboration with the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) are set for the conference tagged “Magic of Nigerian Software Initiative.”

He also said that the hosting rights for this 2011 National Software Conference was won by Cross River State, which has been approved by Senator Liyel Imoke, Governor of Cross River State.

Braimah disclosed that some of the dignitaries who have confirmed to grace the occasion include the Vice President of Nigeria, Mr. Namadi Sambo, Minister for Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson; the counterpart in Education, state governors, Director General, NITDA, Prof. Cleopas Angaye; Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene Juwah; Director General of Koffi Anna Centre for ICT Excellence, Accra, Ghana, Mrs. Dorothy Gordon; and DG NOTAP, Dr. Ahmed Bindir.

Others, he said are the President, Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), Mallam Ibrahim TIzhe; President Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Mr. Ademola Aladekomo; President ATCON, Mr. Titi Omo-Ettu; immediate past president NCS, Prof. Charles Uwadia; chair FOSSFA, Ms, Nnenna Nwakanma; Prof Onibere, University of Benin; captains of industry and sponsors such as MTN, Huawei, NITDA, NCC, MainOne Cable Network, Zinox among others.

Further, he said, the theme for the conference is “A Framework for Software as a National Imperative for a 21st Century Nigeria.”

As said by him, the overriding vision for the ISPON’s National Software Conference and Software competition for tertiary institutions is to promote conscious national awareness on the imperatives for developing Nigeria’s indigenous software development potentials, resources, capacity and capability as a national priority.
